The Tides Resort | Zihuatanejo, Mexico

I hear the sweet sound of wedding maracas in the air! This was my last destination wedding for 2007 and my sixth in Mexico this year. I still can’t believe how fortunate I am to get to travel to so many amazing locations. The ironic part about working in Mexico is that I only know about ten words in Spanish, but thankfully that doesn’t seem to matter. However, I think the culture has grown on me because the other night I found myself speaking in Spanish in a dream (using only two of my ten words).  I guess I need to shoot some weddings in Germany, Austria or Switzerland so my five years of German language classes will finally pay off.

Jocelyn and Carter’s wedding was fantastic in every way. The lighting was perfect, the guests were all incredibly nice and and I’ve seen never seen so much laughter during a ceremony. The humor was courtesy of their officiant, Ami, who is a friend and former co-worker of Carter’s. While sitting next to Ami on the return flight from Zihuatanejo to LA, and then again from LA to San Francisco (and those were assigned seats…. what are the odds?) I learned that he is the owner of a store called On the Fly. FYI, the slacks and gifts for Carter’s groomsmen were all purchased there in case you future grooms out there need any ideas.

After traveling thousands of miles the craziest part about the trip turned out to be the cab ride home from the San Francisco airport.  If you’re ever in an SF cab with a British driver named Paul then run for your life.  That guys is crazy!

Day two…. the festivities continue at The Tides beachside bar. Look familiar? Yep, I was here last month.

Amuleto | Zihuatanejo, Mexico

It’s only been a month since my last trip to Zihuatanejo and I’m already back for more fun in the sun. One of the best parts about shooting destination weddings is having extra time to get to know all the guests. In this case it started early since practically half of the people on my flight out of San Francisco were with the wedding. Even Jocelyn was on the flight, although she barely made it to the plane in time. Those of us who were already on the plane were starting to get a little freaked out about the possibility that she might miss her flight, and more importantly her own rehearsal dinner the next day.

The rehearsal dinner was awesome, although it was hotter than blazes for the first hour or so. Amuleto put on an amazing gourmet meal at their hillside boutique hotel/restaurant that was complemented by an incredible view.

Villa de la Selva | Zihuatanejo, Mexico

The main event!  Here are the photos from Veronica and Dana’s wedding at Villa de la Selva.  I just stepped off the plane from Mexico a few hours ago so they are hot off the press.

It’s good to be back in Zihuatanejo! This evening I snapped a few pics at Veronica and Dana’s welcome party at The Tides (formerly known as Villa Del Sol). I’ll be flying back to shoot a wedding here in November so it was nice to get a sneak peak at the location.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

I passed a pod of dolphins on my way to work today (reason number 25689120587 why I love my job).  This morning Ali and I were both a little zombified from shooting all day yesterday and going to bed at 2 a.m. so a speedboat ride along the coast of Mexico was just what we needed to jumpstart our brains.  And what an amazing ride it was!  I wish I had a photo of my windblown hair afterwards.  Allison tells me it was pretty spectacular.  The wedding was held about an hour outside of Puerto Vallarta on a private beach called Las Caletas.

Sarena and Fabio were one the craziest couples (in a good way) that I have ever worked with.  High-fives and nose picking on the beach isn’t something that most people come up with, but I love it.  Every photo is a reflection of the personalities in front of the camera, whether it’s happy, sad, affectionate, crazy or shy.  That stuff can’t be manufactured or faked.  Sarena and Fabio completely understood how important it is to just relax and have fun.  What more could anyone ask for from a wedding?

The spectacular dancing also deserves a mention thanks to a diverse group of guests from Italy, Venezuela, Mexico and the United States.
